Blog Focus

So, as you can tell since I haven’t written since April, I do NOT like the “Reviews” blog focus I’ve been committed to. It’s so pretentious, and lazy.
I’m just going to get even more pretentious. From now on I’m just going to write about  my life and whatever I want to write about - writing, [...]

James Patterson’s Alex Cross Series

Series Overall: (4/5)
I recently finished reading the entire Alex Cross series by James Patterson. I had read the earlier books years ago, but never got to the latest ones because I couldn’t remember the earlier ones, and always had one last book I wanted to read before committing to reading the series, etc. Blah, [...]

Julia Child’s Crepes Suzette

Overall: (1/5) (most likely due to user error)
Preparation Difficulty: (4/5)
Crepes Themselves (without the Suzette part): (5/5)
I made these the same day I made Julia Child’s Beouf Bourguignon, a snowbound blizzardly day of all-day cooking. I followed the recipe to the letter - even bought a food processor to do so! Orange-almond butter [...]

Julia Child’s Boeuf Bourguignon

Overall: (4/5)
Preparation Difficulty: (3/5)
I have come to cooking slowly and roughly. From being mocked in college for my queer dishes (kielbasa with sauerkraut, plus mustard and BBQ sauce mixed throughout, anyone?) to my more adventurous attempts (inedible Chinese stir-fry; inedible due to the 4 hot peppers I put in), I have experimented, invented, and [...]

Blog Focus

So, I haven’t written in a while because I’ve been struggling with the focus of this blog. It kind of bothered me to be so personal, because strictly speaking this is a professional site for my freelance writing.
Well, I finally figured out.
I’ll write reviews. Reviews of anything and everything, from restaurants to movies and from [...]

Top Christmas Movies

“You still have your Christmas tree up?”
Someone visiting our house recently threw that out there. Why yes; yes, I do. Actually, we usually only take it down on Superbowl Weekend. If it was up to me, I’d leave it up all year long.
I love Christmas. “The whole Christmas season.” (name that movie!) The songs, the [...]

Oprah Flash Mob

I am currently fascinated with Flash Mobs.
It all started one day when I excitedly sat down to my DVR’d first-Oprah-of-the-fall-season-after-an-interminably-long-summer-of-reruns. I was excited, but even better was that my favorite group was performing - The Black Eyed Peas. Maybe they’d even do Boom Boom Pow.
I watched in amazement as a choreographed dance overtook the crowd, [...]

On the Edge

My temper has been short with the kids this week. This is most likely because we’ve only left the house once since Sunday - yesterday (a day of errands, speech, and food shopping); I don’t quite know why we haven’t been outside or done anything, probably (ok, definitely) laziness on my part.
I find myself snapping at [...]

Wonder Women (and Men)

Filed under: General craziness, Jane Austen, Uncategorized

As an avid fan of all things Jane Austen, as well as a regular reader of historical fiction, this post has been formulating in my head for quite some time.
Back in the day, those who were well-to-do (and even those only slightly better than peasants), had a household staff. They had a cook, a housekeeper, [...]
